History
The Hub began as an outreach project of St Andrews Church of Scotland in Carluke in 2012. Since then it has grown and developed and is now a registered charity. Rev Helen Jamieson, minister of St Andrews Church retired in Aug 2024 but continues to support the Hub as a charity Trustee. We have a maximum of seven Charity Trustees, all of whom have a mix of skills and lived experience of dementia.
The Hub provides support to people living with dementia (including young onset dementia) and their carers three days a week throughout the year, as well as providing regular trips. A Virtual Reality training programme has been offered to many professionals and carers since 2023 and Heart to Heart (a bereavement support group) has run since 2025.
Four part time staff and twenty-two volunteers, many of whom have lived experience of dementia, form the basis of our team which supports people throughout the year.
Funding
The National Lottery Improving Lives fund is our main source of funding for staff salaries, Heart for Art and our Virtual Reality programme.
Funding from Age Scotland About Dementia helps us improve the lives of carers, provide weekly lunch and snacks and assists with the cost of accessible transport for our trips.
We are grateful to our main funders but also to those who support the Hub through a regular donation given by Standing Order as well as many extremely generous one-off donations.
This funding enables us to continue to develop the support on offer and provide a choice of activities for those attending the Hub.
Partnership working is important to us.
We are an information Point for Playlist for Life, have regular sessions with Screen Memories and we have excellent links with the Community Mental Health Team and Social Work.
